Sports & Camp Physicals

Sports & Camp Physicals

School sports, club athletics, and summer camps provide wonderful opportunities for children to stay active, build confidence, and create lasting friendships. Before participating, it's important to ensure your child is physically and emotionally prepared for these activities.

A physical examination is especially important for children with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, sickle cell disease, or severe allergies, helping identify concerns before participation.

🏃 More Than a Routine Checkup

A sports or camp physical is different from an annual well-child visit. It begins with a comprehensive review of your child's medical history, current health, and emotional readiness to safely participate in sports, camps, and other physical activities.

What We Review During the Physical

Family medical history and hereditary illnesses
Past or chronic medical conditions
Current health status and overall wellness
Previous surgeries or hospitalizations
Food, medication, or environmental allergies
Musculoskeletal injuries, fractures, or concussions
History of chest pain or breathing difficulties during activity
Episodes of dizziness or fainting
Current prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal medications

💚 Helping Your Child Participate Safely

Our goal is to ensure every child is healthy, confident, and ready to participate safely in sports, camps, and other activities. We work closely with families to identify any concerns, answer questions, and provide recommendations that support a safe and successful experience.

What Happens During a Sports or Camp Physical?

To help make your appointment as smooth as possible, please complete any required sports or camp paperwork before your visit. Our physician will review these forms along with your child's medical history before beginning the examination.

1

Review of Forms & Medical History

Required sports or camp paperwork is reviewed along with your child's health history to identify any concerns before participation.

2

Comprehensive Physical Examination

Special attention is given to the musculoskeletal system—including muscles, bones, joints, posture, strength, and flexibility—to ensure your child is physically prepared for their chosen activity.

3

Recommendations & Completed Forms

We discuss any important findings, recommend additional evaluations if needed, provide prescriptions when appropriate, and complete all required sports or camp participation forms.

📅 Schedule Early

We recommend scheduling sports or camp physicals at least one month in advance. This provides enough time to complete any additional testing or treatment if a new health concern is identified.

Once completed, most sports and camp physicals remain valid for 12 months. If your child joins another sport or attends an additional camp during that time, we can usually complete the necessary paperwork without requiring another appointment.
